Either works. Tipping on the pre-tax subtotal is technically traditional, but most people tip on the final bill for simplicity — and the difference on a typical restaurant check is only a dollar or two. Enter whichever amount is printed on your receipt.
In the United States, 15–20% is the standard range for sit-down restaurant service. 15% is considered adequate for average service, 18–20% is the norm for good service, and 25% or more is appropriate for exceptional service or large groups. At buffets or counter-service spots, 10% is typical. Bartenders generally receive $1–2 per drink or 15–20% of the tab.
When Round Up is on, each person's total is rounded up to the nearest whole dollar, making it easy to collect without dealing with coins or awkward cents. In the individual split view, the rounded amount is shown alongside the exact figure for each person.
Set the number of people to 2 or more and the individual amount fields will appear above the Round Up toggle. Enter each person's portion of the bill. Leave a person's field at $0 to exclude them from the split entirely — the tip is then calculated proportionally based on each active person's share. Results update live as you type.
No. All calculations run entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your bill amount and tip percentage are never sent to any server, never logged, and disappear the moment you close or refresh the tab.
